This fact sheet provides information in plain language about child protection mediation, how it can help Aboriginal families, and how to find a mediator.
If a social worker from the ministry (or an Aboriginal delegated agency) contacts you or visits your home to ask you questions about your family or removes your child from your home, a mediator can help you work with the ministry. Mediators are specially trained to help people reach an agreement and to work out conflicts. You can ask for an Aboriginal mediator, and you can ask your mediator to work with your family’s unique cultural needs.
